IMHO. Eureka 7 ~ how one realises their age

If only I were 10 years younger... I'd probably say 'Eureka' is the best anime in the world. This colourful futuristic world with different laws of physics, global catastrophe caused by an evil genius approaching, rainbow-like explosion that marks the renewal of the world, important moments emphasised with emotional music, but the best part being the charismatic characters of course... But in fact, nothing new and nothing I've never seen somewhere else.

Flow's usual 'heeeey here we go!!!' kind of opening song, optimistic rap or rock'n'roll, girls and boys whining to a guitar for opening and ending themes... Soundtrack that combines electronic and symphonic pieces... One impressive insert theme turns out to be a famous song I already know, and the other - the only listenable piece in the discography of a since disbanded group.

Young boys who find love and become brave to save the world by sheer willpower. Mysterious girls who will only smile to them. Adults who entrust these hero-boys with the fate of the world and are ready to sacrifice themselves to protect the young generation...

These things could only impress me 10 years ago when I knew much less of what anime can be like.

I mean, when you watch mecha, you don't ask why streets in all cities and even natural caves are wide enough for the giant robots to pass. You also never ask why there's a Japanese-style common bath in an aerial battleship. But you probably retain the right to ask why every new development looks like a convenient way out rather than a natural conclusion. And even all these wonderful colourful things can't hide just how much the creators were swaying between different versions of the ending, thrusting in one major event after another just because they'd changed their mind. In the end, they didn't even have enough screen time to show the future lives of the characters who were in fact the main attraction of the show. I'm sure many fans wanted to see what became of their favourite characters, not just the main couple, but what a disappointment for them.

If I were 10 years younger, I'd probably overlook all these things and give 'Eureka' 10 out of 10 in my exaltation, but 'Eureka' will have to be content with my less rapturous rating of 7. And the biggest part of it is because of these characters, and of course, their brilliant voice actors.

reversed songs

I felt like it's possible, but now I know it for sure: the intro of Susumu Hirasawa's 'Parade' is a reversed line from another song. People who know it are saying it's from 'Nurse Cafe'. I couldn't sit still and checked it by playing the song in reverse. It's really similar, though not absolutely authentic.

Speaking of reversed lines, there was one song that bothered me, but now that I've checked it, this case is not as interesting.  The song is 'Niji' - 虹 (A DAY IN JAPAN Version) - by Denki Groove where the intro is obviously a musical phrase turned backwards, but this part is simply the last lines of the chorus sung only by the girl.
くりかえす事もタマにある　ぼんやりとただ意味なく
遠く短い光から　水のしずくハネかえる
ゆっくり消える虹みたく トリコじかけになる

'Trapeze' ~ absolutely realistic

'kuchuu buranko' or 'Trapeze' is the kind of anime works that immediately divides its viewers into those who cannot stand it and drop, and those who watch it until the end. most of the latter give it 5 out of 5, ten out of ten, and so on. except for me
it did not become my favourite, nor I want to rewatch it in the future. I did not become particularly happy after watching it. however, I consider it absolutely realistic, despite the fact it looks otherwise - and hey, can you imagine this is a work of Toei?

plot and characters

dr. Ichiro Irabu - better to say, two of them... or, no, three

and Mayumi, a nurse in pink

know what a person needs when he comes to a psychiatrist. well, in case of Mayumi there is only one thing - her 'shot'. I mean, vitamin injection. yeah
Dr. himself does not even bother that much. his method includes 1. stating a well-known general truth about how the illness is usually cured, 2. expressing his own will to do something related with the patient, like going to the circus or writing a novel or taking an audition - which always pisses off the patient as Dr. looks like he is not even going to treat the patient, and 3. giving very, very light hints on what to do. well he might look like he is giving a piece of actual advice - you need to give vent to your emotions, or you do not even need to struggle with your illness, but that is an audio illusion - since in the end the illness gradually fades away by itself - or not, but anyway, the patient find his way out by himself
however, whatever the treatment itself may be, Dr., with the help of Mayumi and Fukuicchi providing explanations, made several valuable statements

and was constantly taking the patients' hearts out of them

and changed their lives

and yet

the first question to ask is - would you like to receive treatment from such a doctor? no? well, what you answer is not important. the second question is - do you believe that such people exist in reality? again no?
and still, there is something you can learn from him. look at the first screenshot again ↑
and remember one thing

recently I have learned a new word - idiosyncratic. I feel like it can be applied here. have you seen a lot of animes with such shapes and colours?

music
is repetitive, remains stuck in your head and may as well make you fed up with it pretty fast. on the other hand, I prefer that the music is memorable rather than not. the mood was created successfully
and you know? for some reason I never even skipped the OPEDs

voicing
if you look at the seiyuus list you will find a bunch of pretty famous and I guess expensive seiyuus many of whom are frequently voicing characters attractive for the female audience. which is absolutely unnecessary here since in 'Trapeze' the characters were absolutely different. on the other hand, Mitsuya Yuji and Pak Romi created a perfect psycho-doctor. a doctor specialising in psychiatry - as well as a doctor who does not make an impression of a sane person

conclusion
nurse Mayumi has a great ability to express everything in brief phrases. she was seeing through the patients' nature. in the end, she expressed the nature of this series, too

but still, tell me if 'tis really far from this real world?
