My first trip to Osaka in 6 years. Day 6

10.23, Takarazuka Grand Theatre
I feel like it's changed and not changed... Like it was yesterday and long ago... I feel like a granny visiting the places of her youth 😂
13.06
The nice thing about this theatre is that each row of seats is properly higher than the previous so you can see the stage well enough. Some theatres may learn from this. Yes, I'm speaking about you, Concert hall in Vladivostok!
15.01, L'omelette restaurant
They even have a place that specialises in omelette with rice... Special for me I guess

IMHO. Moon Troupe's 'Company' and 'Baddy'

For some reason in a while I felt like writing a detailed list of my impressions of the show...
First, 'Company'.
Probably the first time in my life I watched a musical and felt unsatisfied. My love for Moon Troupe did not let me admit it but let's face the truth: this is weak. What's with that story? Everybody works hard, there are some collisions during the process, but in the end they find common ground and make the show a success. 'cause 'audience are partners of the performers' huh?
I was surprised to find the show is based on an existing novel, so shallow the concept was.
If the above summary is just too short, here is a short but comprehensive one:
After two companies merge into one, several events are set up to promote the new company's image. Your average 'sarariman' Aoyagi tries to stand up for a young sports trainer Yui who is blamed for bad handling her duties, but in the end they both are transferred to produce a ballet performance, just as one would expect haha. During preparations they meet actual ballet dancers, Aoyagi learns much from his new friend Minami, Yui tries to establish partner relationship with a renown ballet dancer Takano who is a star both in Japan and abroad and has his own views on how things should go in life. The president's daughter Sara who is the prima of the ballet troupe constantly appears on stage and does nothing in particular. Dancers and teachers from the ballet school supported by the corporation also appear and do pretty nothing. Nayuta, a young singer from a famous band, is suddenly chosen for the main role instead of Takano who confessed he is not in his perfect condition. This condition however doesn't prevent him from dancing not only the bad wizard Rothbart but also Odille who is changed from a female role into a male one, being an apparition created by Rothbart...... What? Well, many characters asked the same, but in the end everyone agreed. Of course everything cannot go perfectly and Sara gets injured when being lifted by Nayuta, but everyone is yasashii and says it was her fault and not Nayuta's. We didn't even for a moment doubt Sara would somehow be dismissed from the show because Minami, who is her understudy, could not possibly stay behind the curtains since she is the one played by the Top musume. She is afraid to perform, but Aoyagi, who was afraid himself just a couple of minutes ago, comforts her and they embrace. By the way, Takano also had problems because he supported the injured Sara, but he has his devoted trainer Yui, heheeey! So, the last ballet performance is a success despite the problems, Takano decides to establish some kind of agency in Europe and suggests Yui go with him, now you girls should learn to be as persistent as Yui had been, and don't forget to wear a lovely blue dress for the party to conquer a stubborn guy's heart. The Top duo is together, of course, and everything is well......
I personally love funny stories with happy ending very much but I was not sure in the end if I wouldn't like to have a pickled cucumber.
Aoyagi by Ryou Tamaki is that average 'sarariman' doing his job diligently. Suddenly transferred from sales to ballet producing? Not a problem. They still think in Japan that a good worker should try everything in every section and be ready for anything. Doesn't matter he doesn't know anything about ballet - he just needs to learn... Despite - or thanks to this story flaw - I don't know which one it is, but Aoyagi was the same good guy till the end. Maybe the best thing I learned from him was that Natsume Soseki translated 'I love you' as 'tonight moon is beautiful', because the Japanese prefer indirect speaking.
By the way, I noticed that in the original Aoyagi's wife was not dead from cancer but rather simply left him. As for me, I'd rather leave this fact as it was in the book. At least it would add some nuances to Aoyagi's character.
Young ballet dancer Minami by Reika Manaki was your avegare cute and positive, slightly dumb girl. Only slightly... Well, they like it very much in Japan when the girl doesn't get it when she is confessed to. And it was even cute, when performed by Chapi. And still, what else can we expect from such dull characters, even if they are played by the Top duo.
Probably Miya's ballet star Takano was the only noticeable character in the story. The proud celebrity with his own stance and views, moreover with character development not much seen in anyone else in the story. I was waiting so much that he would attack his cute trainer and supporter, Yui, by Mitsuki Umino. This is probably bordering on an otome's fantasies, but what can I do if Rurika is not only a good actress but also such a hot thing too. For want of hotness in all other characters, I guess I would be happy if she attacked just any girl on the stage... But I had to be satisfied at least with the fact that Takano invited Yui to be his trainer and manager in Europe.
Speaking of the much desired hotness, at least Hayate Uzuki as the pop-group leader Akutsu was trying to add some, and I'm sure she would if her time on stage was not so limited. I'm not sure if it's right to measure the quality of a performance by the level of 'presence', but Uzuki's presence was big and one cannot ignore it. Even the scene where her character simply apologizes for his fellow band member was more impressive than many other longer scenes.
The same goes for Yurino Touka as ballet teacher Noa. Her role was small but she was good in it and even managed to pull some gags. Both Seri Ayazuki and Ruu Kozuki were also good as the wise company head and the funny manager who was constantly getting angry but in the end turned to be the only one 'restructured' - away from the company for good.
Wakaba Saotome as Sara was not really impressive to my taste. Chisei Akatsuki was not either, but at least she did some beautiful pas during the 'Swan lake' play within a play.
Kanato Tsukishiro........ Now here is something to think about. I didn't like her in 'All for one', but I admitted it might have been my personal prejudice. In 'Company' however I totally forgot about her existence in the Troupe and only noted how bad Nayuta was performing and singing. Even then I didn't recognise her. Finally I recalled she must have been somewhere in the Troupe, and by process of elimination I guessed it must have been her. Even then I didn't believe it and even double checked the role list. So, yes, she was really bad. Her acting was flat and all the important moments looked too deliberate, and her part in the 'Barbarian' band performance was not very good. While I could tolerate some other actresses I don't like, when it comes to Tsukishiro I cannot help thinking what she is doing in this troupe, and why.
And just one actress I would like to mention is a girl whom I didn't recognise and whom I really will have to check on! One of the ballet dancers was given a short aria when Aoyagi came to the school, and that was just a-w-e-s-o-m-e.
I also must praise that actresses acting as ballet dancers were actually performing ballet on the stage, and Manaki was even standing en pointes.

'Baddy'
probably compensated for everything lacking in 'Company'. This is the case when the revue is better than the first half.

A not-so-short summary (and yes, this revue has that what can be summarised):
On Earth, in a kingdom where all people are good and go to heaven after death, the prince and the princess of the royal family are admiring the Moon through a telescope, even though Moon is a big prison. They notice an explosion, which was supposedly caused by a notorious criminal called Baddy and his company of 'bad guys' (he is Baddy because he is bad, but you've surely noticed how this word reminds of 'buddy', a friend, colleague or member of a company). The policewoman, Goody, is looking after peace of Earth together with her supporters, including a broken-hearted guy who seeks her attention. When a quarrel is about to happen between the king and the queen, Goody helps settle it. Then, Baddy arrives with his followers, including his Sweetheart of an unknown sex (just when you think whether it be him or her, the characters explain that it's impossible to tell - and you settle down with it, haha). They start their adventures by breaking the ban on smoking. Goody tries to arrest Baddy several times, the most prominent one - during a presentation of seafood, where she pretends to be a scallop... o___O In a skirmish one of Baddy's followers is wounded, but the princess lends him her handkerchief, which marks the start of their relationship. Goody's friend ends up in the Baddy's quarters, where he learns evil and discovers his talent for passport forging. The bad guys sing and dance explaining how to be bad by extorting money from rich women, with some of them successful, some - not so much, and one of the followers, meeting the kind-hearted princess, refusing to take any money at all. When trying to capture Baddy, Goody learns about her friend changing sides, she then leaves the main target be and pursues her friend. Baddy suddenly realises he is offended by this, meanwhile Sweetheart notices this growing interest of Baddy and grieves he is no longer the 'dynamic and dangerous' man she (he?) admired. The royal family makes a deal with aliens about keeping some valuables in their bank, this decision overheard by Baddy. He then reminds himself he is kinda bad and decides to steal the treasure. Wearing a wig and pretending to be one of the aliens, he lures the code from another banker and removes the whole safe together with the prince and the princess on the platform. Goody, who was about to fall for Baddy's charm, realises she feels humiliated and outraged by this, and decides to pursue the bad company to another planet where they have fled. After a large-scale fight the children are rescued, but the friend of Goody is shot. He dies in the arms of Sweetheart, who says he is the real 'dynamic and dangerous' guy. All others manage to escape, but Goody and Baddy, though stick with their principles, cannot let go of each other, and it is said they never returned from that planet. Some time later they are seen in heaven, where Baddy finds himself surprised to be, and upon hearing the fact he hurries up to start smoking. By the way, the role of the cigarettes is played by the indispensable shan-shan.

If you could help me find the right word to describe it, I would appreciate it, but for the lack of it I should call it 'trippy'. The fantasy setting, the crazy costumes, the weird concept of all the characters, the bad Baddy and the cute Goody, and androgynous Sweetheart, the grey-faced aliens-bankers, the good guy suddenly discovering his talent for forging passports, the dance of the seafoods... The number with Goody and cancan girls dancing to the song describing her hatred and determination was one of the best musumeyaku numbers I have seen in my life. And finally, the energetic otokoyaku dance and passionate dance of the Top combi make up greatly for the dullness of the musical. If you wanted hotness here is some. One important correction: I don't and I never will recognise Tamaki as a cool character or a 'bad' one. Villainous villains are out of her way. The first half of the show was partially unclear to me until I saw some development in Baddy that led to the ending as it was.
To my relief, there were good songs and melodies in the revue, and singing of all performers was very good with some parts really difficult. Now that I recall the revue, it was probably the most strange, unusual, unique revues I've seen - and I like it! The costumes were also different from what you'd expect, and I insist they were very beautiful.
It's not very good, maybe, that I haven't been watching much of Takarazuka lately, but this gap enabled me to appreciate how Tamaki and Chapi have grown as performers - as actors, as dancers, and as singers, which impressed me most.
p. s. I must mention Rurika's Sweetheart again. With every performance I respect her more and more. While I didn't like her face very much it might have influenced my general opinion of her, but her charisma reaches the farthest rows of seats so easily, her characters stand out so much, her presence is so big that I started to feel admiration for her without realising it.
If I could have a ticket for half price and see only the revue, I would go to watch 'Baddy' again!

My curious April. Day 9

19.50, bar Robroy
Them people who said wisteria is already blooming in Kameido tenjin - burn in hell! We went through all the trouble of getting there from Ginza only to see a single tree blooming and the rest of the shrine covered in thick green...
And still, today's 'Baddy Baddy' we have seen in Takarazuka is playing in my head. I would love to dance if I weren't so tired from walking to and from Kameido

Our hot trip to Japan 2017. Day 6, part 1

14.45, Takarazuka Great Theatre hall
They really do like creating special cocktails for events and performances here. Doesn't matter if the cocktail itself is nothing special. But I have a performance-themed plastic cup for myself now...

ついてない。no luck. *здец

I don't know any real obscene words other than the most common in other languages than my mother tongue. Yeah, there were some sources for practice in 'Misfits', but I'm not sure if even they would properly convey my feelings. Like our famous satirist Alexander Ivanov said, 'there aren't more than 5 words, but what combinations one can make out them!'
So, this is all to declare that all tickets for Snow Troupe June-July performance 'Bakumatsu Taiyouden' are gone in 14 minutes after start.

Takarazuka Snow Troupe 'Bakumatsu taiyouden' ~ I guess it's the same fine mess we're in

Most of all I worry about preparing and being ready for all kinds of conditions that might arise on my way. While I cannot say I never rely on chance and never grasp the opportunities that come, it's important for me to know that I did what I could to be able to grasp the best of them.
That's why I got up as early as 10-55 in the morning on this sunny Saturday and went to see how the tickets sale is going. I mean, when it was 11 o'clock here where I live, it was 10 in Japan and the tickets went on sale.
This is my conclusion:
Ticket Pia - I remember that it didn't accept my credit card last year and even before that, but if you're planning to buy tickets there, they were sold out 6 minutes after the start.
CNPlayguide - wonderfully, no tickets for Snow Troupe's performance at all.
Lawson ticket - as always, the website is not able to sustain the flood of visitors in the first several minutes, it only loaded without a problem on my 3rd or 4th attempt around 10-08 (Japanese time). A few tickets still available even at 10-20 for some days, but only a limited number (). Mostly available are tickets for Monday to Thursday (Wednesday being a day-off).
Takarazuka official website, English version - looks like it offers the greatest numbers of tickets but don't be mislead, even if it says there are plenty (◯), it doesn't mean the system will easily secure them for you. A few tickets still left after 10-20, hard to say if some days of the week are freer than others, available tickets are occasional.
Since I know no other system to buy tickets, this is the end of my journey. I guess the 14th of May will be a hard day.

translation. Moon Troupe 'Edward VIII'

After two months of translation (not counting two weeks of my business trips and holidays), I finally finished my second project of Takarazuka performances translation. Unexpectedly 'Edward' turned out to be more difficult to translate than 'Alice's lover'. Somewhere in the middle I knew that there exists an already translated version, but I didn't care. It was kinda important for me to do it myself. Still, there are a couple of phrases I couldn't understand very well. I apologise for not being able to translate them 100% correctly, but overall this translation must be rather good. I've done as much research as I could. Occasional mistakes and misspells possible.
So, please, have a look.

upd. 29.03.17

IMHO. Snow Troupe’s 'Rurouni Kenshin'

In the break between the 1st and the 2nd act, standing in the lobby and looking through the programme, I saw two western faces on the other side of the hall. I must say, though Takarazuka gains more and more popularity in other countries, it was not common for me to see a foreigner (at least an obvious one) in the theatre actually. I was wondering whether they were fans of RuroKen or of Takarazuka, or of both. But the first question that came to my head was – how did they get the tickets???

Story and characters
I still don’t know about those two, but me and my friend are fans of both Zuka and RuroKen. Going to see the performance was an extremely important thing for us, all our trip was specially planned for that, and we started planning as soon as we heard about the decision of Hankyu to stage RuroKen last year. What I did not expect was that so many Japanese turned out to be fans like us, too. I mean, more than 30 performances in total, with approximately two thousand seats in the Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre, and almost all of them sold out in 1 hour. Why do 60,000 people have nothing else to do in April? It’s a start of a new year, why don’t you all concentrate on your studies or work? I’m just joking, of course. Or am I?
If you’re not new to it, you shouldn’t expect that Takarazuka ever makes a play entirely for fans of a particular franchise. And I didn’t… At least I thought I didn’t. And still I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that they stuffed 2 hours of the play with all kinds of events for the sake of viewers oblivious to the original work, including Kenshin’s fight during the revolution, his past with Tomoe, meeting Kaoru, Yahiko, Sano, Saito, Megumi, Aoshi, Takeda and Kano, conflicts with local yakuza, contacts with police, opium production, first Gatling, European-style ball, saving Kaoru and of course, many fights in the course of it. I read the director’s explanation that the story would be something happening between the first events of the manga, but instead they just briefly explained almost the whole first arc with the only difference of Kurogasa, Kenshin's enemy and former Shinsengumi member, who was replaced with Kano and connected with Kanryu. Rather than a filler, I’d call it an alternative – and brief – introduction.
To my surprise, I discovered that for me, apparently, the scenario may be of less importance if the rest is good. And the rest was just superb. The 23rd row is only second to the farthest in the audience, but even from there I could feel how much perseverance and love was put into the characters’ personification.

Acting
When my Japanese friend, a frequent Takarazuka visitor, told me she loves Snow more than any other troupe because of the 'climate' and coherence in the collective, I couldn’t quite understand what she meant. I guess I had to see it myself to understand. It’s when everybody is in his place, and when everybody has his time to shine on stage. And I couldn’t imagine better actors to portray the characters I love so much. I was ready to see some actresses suitable and others differing from what I’d like to see, but there were no one to count as the latter. I know it’s not fair to compare Takarazuka to people cosplaying anime characters, or actors of a live action movie, but I’ve never seen anybody so similar to the original characters. I read that Watsuki approved Satoh as Kenshin for the movie. I’m not sure what he said about the actresses from Takarazuka, but he gave his consent, and I hope it was not bought but negotiated.
But well, there is one thing you have to keep in mind – it’s a stage performance, and it’s Takarazuka with its traditions. They couldn’t make a smaller Yahiko or an older Saito who would be not as hot and young as they did. Or less loveable Takeda with his money and Gatling. Or less funny Megumi, since a female role for an otokoyaku actress - even if a former one - is always like that. Or miss the chance to make Sano introduce himself as if in a kabuki play.
Speaking of Yahiko, this is the thing that will never stop surprising me in a bad way when it comes to subordination and hierarchy in Japan. So, you choose young Ms. Irodori to play Yahiko. And you don’t give her any place on the poster. I know there were enough people on it even without her and her rank within the troupe, judging by the place of her photo in the programme, is not very high, but it really made me worry they'd erase the whole character from the story. And I must say she was an incredibly good Yahiko. Just as all others were incredibly good as their respective characters.

Costumes and setting
I thought I'd write something like 'this aspect deserves a separate paragraph from me', but I'm not sure if I can make a whole paragraph out of my inarticulate proclamations of delight. Just imagine that even the 10-minute scene in the brothel Kano visited in the beginning had a row of girls wearing gorgeous clothes, imagine that when Aoshi runs, his cloak waves just as it looks in manga or anime which always looks slightly surreal, that Sano was actually carrying his big zanbato, that there were Kaoru's dojo, Akabeko, a dark forest, Kano's house built in a western manner, an opium production room, and all of them had their own interiors or exteriors.

Music
As far as I remember, the music was very good in 'Rurouni Kenshin'… though it's hard to me to say anything bad about the play that amazed me so much. The lyrics in some songs were maybe just a bit less poetic than I'd want them to be – more like normal speech, for example 'this is our first technique of Kamiya Kasshin ryu' or 'I haven’t forgotten Tomoe but now I want to protect Kaoru'. I mean, literally. And some of those songs weren't meant to be entertaining, but serious and dramatic.
It was probably a silly thing to hope they'd use any of the anime songs or background themes, though I think they could manage it if they wanted. Nevertheless, I headed for Quatre Reves fully determined to buy a live CD, but I think it was not issued then.

Conclusion
At first I thought it would be hard for me to rewatch the Takarazuka version of RuroKen in case I lay my hands on it, because 'Kenshin' is not a story to kill time with or watch for entertainment, at least for me. However, after some time, I realised that the Takarazuka version is not too deep and tragic, and its lightness makes it possible to enjoy the play again. Now I want to watch again so that maybe this time I'd have the chance to have a closer look at the characters' faces, costumes and other things on stage... Because you know, I didn't know where to look at when in the theatre. I have only one pair of eyes, and they made too many gorgeous things appear on stage simultaneously for me to follow.

instruction. how to buy tickets for Takarazuka performance using the new system for foreign customers ~ FYI, it's not a real instruction

Short introduction: today I managed to buy tickets for 'Rurouni Kenshin'. It took me more than one hour, half of all my nerves and several litres of tears, changing our plans and changing our plane booking as well as two hotels, but I managed. There was also the option of trying to stand in a queue on a cool April morning in order to buy same-day tickets, but I guess I wanted more certainty and a seat down my bottom.
So, the truth is, I've never seen such an agiotage. Even when I was buying tickets for the final performance of ms. Kiriya, then a top star of Moon - I was not aiming for the closing night, but still. My friend managed to buy tickets for 'Man from Algiers' a couple of days before the actual performance we went to see, and to a performance in Saitama during one of the national tours, which are referred to on takawiki as one of the fast-selling ones. I managed to buy good tickets for 'Puck', which is a revival of a musical staged 20 years ago, so I supposed it would be relatively popular, too. Now I see I didn't know what 'popular' means.
So, Takarazuka has now an official homepage with tickets available for foreign customers. As it requires that you pick up the tickets no later than 15 minutes before the performance starts, all you need is to come in time, day in day, not even a few hours in advance, but just so that you have time to get your tickets and enter the hall.
What I learned today and what I have to share is:
  • Tickets on CNPlayguide were sold in 1 minute exactly. Since I'm a registered member there, it was the fastest way for me, so I refreshed the page at 10-00 Japanese time, right when the tickets went to sale, and there were all triangles - it means, there were only up to 10 or up to 50 tickets left for respective shows. I clicked the necessary link and while the page was loading the tickets were gone.
  • Tickets on Lawson were sold very fast, but their website, when experiencing traffic congestion, shows you a message that you have to wait (in Japanese AND in English) and you have to wait. As always, don't refresh the page because you'll be sent to the end of the queue. So, you won't even see the available tickets because all you get is the error message in red letters on a white background.
  • The official Japanese website also shows a similar message and doesn't let you see the current state of selling.
  • Tickets on Eplus were sold very fast, but I couldn't really measure the amount of time because I wasn't interested, since it doesn't accept foreign cards anyway.
  • As for the English version of the official website, it does enable you to choose what you want, but when there's a flood of customers it shows you the error message saying they couldn't make a booking for you, as soon as you click 'next' after choosing the date and time and entering basic info about you. The system does not reflect available tickets in real time, so if you don't succeed, you probably chose the wrong performance. I mean wrong as 'no luck'. The official ticket selling system is based on Pia's service and it reloads information about available tickets every something, I'm not sure how fast, but even though the tickets are shown as available, there may be none in reality.
  • Opening the official website's ticket selling system in several tabs of the same browser leads to the whole process of booking being cancelled. It's written in the error message you get, so don't try to open the same link twice and clicking on it like crazy. Instead, open several performances you're interested in separately in several different browsers, thus you will escape cancelling. Or try opening in different browsers different types of seats for the same performance.
  • In case of extreme congestion you'd probably like to turn on auto-fill if your browser has such a function. It saves time. Because I guess from time to time you'd want to return back and see if the tickets are still on sale.
  • So, it took me 44 minutes of constant refreshing, clicking, searching, kicking the table in despair and envisaging how we would be standing in the morning queue for same-day tickets. After that the main flood obviously went down and the website finally began to show the real state of affairs. What I managed to see was that there were still some tickets available for the day that we intended to spend in Osaka, but there wasn't much choice so we went for it - and had to change our flight, hotels and plans. I imagine this system gives you the same 10 minutes for completing your payment as the others do, so when you see you managed to book your tickets, you may breathe out and relax for a couple of moments. Then gather the remaining strength and complete the process as soon as you can.
  • Judging by today's experience, S-seats remained on sale the longest, maybe due to their number, because A and B only take one sector of the balcony each, while S-seats take the rest of the hall, excluding the small SS-sector in the middle of the first floor. Previously I thought they were selling faster because they're better.
  • And as you may have understood, the only website that was still selling after one hour went by, was the official English website of Takarazuka. All the other 'playguides' sold their share during the first minutes. And I'm not exaggerating, I tell you. The entire month was sold in several minutes. I'd never imagine 'Rurouni Kenshin' was so popular. That means that I'm a naive fool, because my friend told me that the tickets to Grand Theatre were also sold out very quickly, but I preferred to think it was because she went to buy them too late.

Takarazuka Moon Troupe 'Alice's Lover' script and translation

Some things you would like to know before you read it

1. This is a script, not a subtitle file.
2. The script contains a few places where I wasn't able to understand what the characters were saying. This may or may not affect the final translation, because some phrases can be understood judging by the context and some cannot. The words that were difficult to hear are marked as 「聞きにくい」 in the Japanese script and [incomprehensible] in the English one. The words I am not sure of are written in italics
3. The songs lyrics are written down by me and verified with the help of 'Alice's Lover' Twitter bot here. This does not mean that after verification all the lyrics become identical to what the bot posts.
4. You may agree or disagree with my variant of translation, I kinda don't care. But if you have a better version of translation and would like to kindly explain me why, I'd be glad to correct my mistakes. The same goes for any mistypes etc.
5. I think I can share the final result of my 2-year work. Final not because it's polished to perfection but rather because I'm fed up with it and want to start translating the next one, which would be 'Rurouni Kenshin' I think.

three things that led me to Takarazuka ~ some memories of my past

I have been telling my friends that there were only 2 anime series that made me feel interested in Takarazuka. I was forgetting one thing, not as obvious but even more important.
It happened 5 years ago when I was rewatching 'Samurai X' or 'Rurouni Kenshin'. Already having stable internet connection, unlike the first time I was watching it on TV, I could indulge in watching it with the original sound and check some info in the web whenever I wanted. That's why I could fully appreciate the Japanese art of voice acting and immediately fell in love with Suzukaze Mayo. Her voice was some kind of magic and I couldn't fail to check what kind of person she is. She turned out to be a former Takarazuka Top star, but that time it was nothing but a name to me.
Just a month later I started watching 'Sakura Wars' or 'Sakura Taisen'. I've read that the composer was inspired by the OSK all-female troupe, if I am not mistaken, so it's no wonder the soundtrack is full of josei-kageki-like songs - songs reminding those performed by all-female troupes (and there are quite a few in Japan, which is a topic I will develop in a separate post later).
But this isn't the first time I touched the 'female revue' esthetics. The first time was 'Sailor Moon'. And I'm not speaking of Haruka, the obvious Takarazuka-inspired symbol. I'm speaking of the Three Lights. Yes, Ogata Megumi is great, but the heart of 90s lies in these two songs.

'Special DVD-BOX MASAKI RYU' ~ once upon a time...

First, Holst's 'Jupiter'. The tender theme - 'tsubomi' by Kobukuro. Then, suddenly, Golden Bomber's 'memeshikute'. Then 'shinku ni moete' from 'Gone with the Wind'. Then GReeeeN's 'kiseki'.
And Black Ryuu versus White Ryuu. Well, to be precise a bad emperor versus a good count.
Huh?
I'd say this DVD-box was strange, but very enjoyable. Whatever people say, I think Ryuu is a good singer. Her visual image, though, was questionable. As for me, I liked her a lot. However it's totally noticeable that she is supposed to cater for younger fans, singing all those kind of songs and wearing such stuff - it's like saying 'hey I'm soooo young and trendy!' People say she's too young and her image makes her look even younger, and I already see many fans disappointed with that. But I'm ok with that Why cannot they introduce something up-to-date sometimes?
The concept of the DVD - all those kings and counts - was not fully explained, all we have is just a short premise and then follows the row of musical clips, which is all good but does not really develop the 'story'.

conclusion
I'm her fan now and will be, probably, until she leaves Takarazuka. Maybe even after that. Surely.
During a talk in the car she utters that she started playing games only after her little brother was born. I want to see him... I WANT TO SEE HIM!!! I BET HE'S CUTE!!! AWWWWWW

Takarazuka monthly wallpapers. Oct. 2013 ~ Mar. 2015

I was wondering about how long have I been paying no attention to Takarazuka monthly wallpapers. I guess, after ms. Kiriya has left, I had no intention to keep linking to them. Well, it's time I make up for the pause I made.
Then I opened my blog and searched for the last post where I linked to the calendars.
Then I saw it dates back to 1.5 years ago.
The best way to understand how fast time flies is to think about something, then forget about it, and them remember once again.
