There should be a limit to how bad a person can sing when he or she is aiming to be a professional artist. False notes, no vocal control, same plaintive melodies only occasionally rescued by unusual approaches of, I assume, different composers. However the most impressive fact for me is that she didn't learn it even after all these years.

When I first heard J-pop flowing from the stereo system I had installed in my sim's house, I was thinking if I hadn't gone mad... but it was no such thing, it was just that the creators of the game obviously paid tribute to a popular trend. There even seem to be versions of some songs sang in Simlish.

But when I listened closely, that impressive song turned out to be simply too typical. Wasn't it chosen exactly because it's so typical, I wonder... After giving Sakaki a second, a third try, I realised there is no better Japanese artist if you need to explain what J-pop is to someone absolutely unfamiliar with the genre. It's something like this

but only for anime/game openings. I swear if you put a random song by Sasaki to a random opening video, it'll be okay. Well, maybe just a couple of twists.

I found Minekawa while searching for a female vocalist with a soft, pleasant voice. In the end I found what I wanted - just not in Minekawa, fortunately there are a lot of singers who perform real music, like Kokia, like Mai Fujisawa, like Rimi Natsukawa and many others.

I mean, she doesn't actually do anything at all. It's technically singing, yes, but this singing sounds to me like something that of a vocaloid - just a voice hitting the necessary notes... Unfortunately, I don't have the same strong voice, but I guess it would also be possible to get along without it. I wonder when, if ever, will the Japanese composers get tired of writing the same song with the same generic melody again and again...

There are songs I love, there are songs I enjoy, but there are also songs I don't really like, either I never liked them at all or my feelings changed with time... but strangely, they still mean so much, even though I don't listen to them any more.

Not just any sunny day, no. And those sunny days were different. Laruku's sunny day was warm and vivid with summer colours. Buck-Tick's sunny day was cold and windy, like it's usually here in February. However, for some reason, they are so similar. I'll never be able to explain it, so I'll just leave this here.

IMHO. Olafur Arnalds ~ what kind of music do you like

If I were asked about my favourite music genre, I would name rock groups and singers first, pop singers next, and probably mention that sometimes I go to listen to classical concerts.

I don't think I would ever say ambient is my all. But then, except for songs I like extremely hard, hardly ever were there moments when I felt more bliss than when listening to Haruka Nakamura, or Serph, or, this time, Olafur Arnalds.

Just as much as I was swept away by his '3055' which appeared on an album by 'various artists' recommended to me by Google Play Music, I was disappointed by his other albums.

Tracks like 'Endalaus I' or 'Film credits' were too monotonous even for an ambient piece.

Highly praised 'Another happy day', 'Broadchurch' and 'Invisible front' were an absolute torture... If I ever wanted to watch 'Broadchurch' I gave up completely because of the music.

'I am winter', even though beautiful, left me unconcerned.

If I mention the 'Late night tales', most of them were disastrous to my grief, especially pieces like 'And Still They Move' by Sarah Neufeld & Colin Stetson. I really doubt this can be interpreted as music...

And then 'Remember' comes out.

First week I only consider it a nice mellow background for having an afternoon nap... but then I suddenly realise it's the best kind of music I have ever heard. It makes me want to cry no less than a heart-piercing rock ballad by Kyosuke Himuro or Tchaikovsky's Adagio from 'Nutcracker'.

'Saman' makes me love this world again.

But the one that made me realise the value of this album is 'Partial'. It's a masterpiece, I tell you. These whirling sounds, like pink and lilac fish swimming in the space, spin my mind round and round.

So, just like 'Ekki hugsa' tell you - don't think, feel...

After I thoroughly went through the whole discography, there appeared other songs I liked.

'A2' is black and warm, if you know what I mean.

'W' and 'M' sound as if they were part of 'Smash hit' soundtrack.

And once again, '3055'. I liked it, forgot it, then found it and liked it again. The only song from the whole 'Eulogy' album I left in the playlist. I compared the number in the playlist and the number in my Google Play Music history... Yes, both are '3055'.

I seem to be too young to remember the first albums of Chicane, as I read on some forum thread, in 2009 he was told to 'no more produce the same quality albums', but I was surprised to find some hits I know very well are created by him

like 'Don't give up'

or 'Low sun'

or 'No ordinary morning'

on the other hand, they weren't the reason I came. It was 'Running to the sea' from the latest album.

While getting to know Chicane closer, I discovered a strange trend - only a couple of songs in each album were exceptionally impressive, the rest were only average. Among those were some really good, but the repetitive style got me bored very quick.

Some were reminiscent of the era, like 'Some might say' which sounds almost Daft-Punkish

But in the end, my favourites would be those creating a mystical, ethereal environment, especially magical inside of the fresh June verdure.

'Saltwater', based on Clannad's 'Theme from Harry's Game' which I have already heard on a bootleg CD with songs supposedly by Enya while they actually weren't...

 and 'Windbreaks'. These require no comment, I swear.

IMHO. Fake? - why did I ever decide to give them a try?

'why did I ever decide to give them a try?' - I was thinking when I listened through the whole discography and found only 7 songs that were at least interesting.

Then I opened my YouTube history and remembered what I thought upon hearing them for the first time. 'These songs are not very impressive, but they are listenable and I might find something good if I listen to the rest of their songs'.

So, it seems the so-so songs I heard were probably the best I could find among more than a hundred of songs Fake? ever issued.

Wiki says they even produced a song "Care" in collaboration with Kokia... If I weren't told there is female vocal in there, I wouldn't even notice it. If I weren't told it's Kokia I wouldn't recognise her. I can only laugh now that I know this fact... What an impressive vocal! How much it changed the song atmosphere! LOL

And this is Kokia, with her outstanding talent and unique aura...... >____<

In the end, the only listenable songs were:
